Welcome back to Yozakura Family episode 3 review. Altough Week 2 ranking for Yozakura Family isn’t that great, let’s just keep be patient. After all, we haven’t get the action heavy scene yet. So stay patient guys.

Episode 3 is adapting the chapter 3 of the manga. The anime is adding many scene. Most of it works, but there is some additional scene that i feel is kinda too long. Let’s just talk about it.

General Plot

Yozakura Family episode 3 Taiyo smiles

The plot mainly is from chapter 3 of the manga which is Taiyo mini training arc.

I honestly thought at first that episode 3 will adapt chapter 3 and chapter 4 of the manga respectively, but i guess Silver Link decide to slow down the pace for now.

Additional & Changed Scene

Episode 3 also has many additional anime original scene. Let’s just review what is the additional scene first before moving on

1. Taiyo Waking up

Since in the manga, Taiyo hasn’t yet move to Yozakuras mansion, the scene here is different.

In Manga Taiyo just wake up in his house. On the other hand in the Anime since Taiyo is already moving to Yozakura Mansion, he wake up and step on Goliath, angering Goliath.

2. Mutsumi and Taiyo

Manga just doesn’t have this scene where Mutsumi and Taiyo is interacting and talking about Goliath.

3. Kyoichiro and Taiyo

There is a small scene between Kyoichiro and Taiyo. This is compeletely anime original. However i don’t really like this scene since it made Taiyo feels like he hates Kyoichiro.

4. The Yozakuras

In this scene we are shown how Yozakuras is turning off the chicken clock. This is once again an additional scene. However i don’t like this scene for the reason explained in this episode which are  “If you are recognized by the house, you can set them not to go off on you“.

5. Taiyo and Mutsumi Tea Time

Additional scene here is about Mutsumi and Taiyo tea-time interaction. Actually the later part where Taiyo save Mutsumi from bullies and cut his hair is actually on the manga (but i forget which chapter was that again haha XD).

Animation & Art

Almost all the art and animation in this episode is very smooth and good looking. However, there is one scene in particular where the art looks bad and memeable.

Although it is just this one scene that is noticeable, since this is kinda a gag scene i think it is kinda forgivable.

Taiyo's Insanity

I’m intrigued once again by Taiyo insanity to go to such length to protect Mutsumi. We have to remember here, even though this is a Shonen Manga, that Taiyo is (at this point) a normal human. To add more he is just a  High School Student.

Yozakura Family episode 3 Taiyo wounds

You can see that Taiyo’s body is full of wounds from his daily training living with in Yozakura Mansion. That is understandable given how hard he trains. I mean, have you ever imagine wearing a shirt weighing 50 kg?

To add to that for 1 month straight he has to eat a food with (altough little) a poison in it to improve his endurance.

Even Futaba mentions that the fact Taiyo reach his limit physically before mentally first prove his strong and almost insane desire to protect Mutsumi.

Conclusion

Episode 3 does a Great job at adapting chapter 3. However for additional scene, Silver Link need to add a scene that actually matters and not conflicting with its own narrative.

The main problem i find is on the Additional scene #4 where The Yozakuras turning off the chicken alarm. Other than that particular scene, the additional scene give more faster development and background to Taiyo and Mutsumi relationship.

Overall is it a good episode? Yes, it is Great even. However, some additional scene just dampens and prolong the pace too much. It is 4/5 for me.
